Mixing Sample-Based Music @ AES 139!

On October 30th, I had the honor to present an engineering brief the AES convention at the Jacob Javits Center here in New York.  My focus was techniques for mixing sample based music, check out the synopsis and video below!

Samples are a great way to add impact, vibe, and texture to a song and can often be the primary component of a new work. From a production standpoint, audio that is already mixed and mastered can add to a producer’s sonic palette. From a mixing perspective, however, these same bonuses also provide a number of challenges. Looking more closely at each of the common issues an engineer often faces with sample-based music, I will illustrate techniques that can enable an engineer to better manipulate a sample, allowing it to sit more naturally inside the mix as a whole.

*Note - my phone died in the middle of the presentation, so please forgive the edit!

Concrete Jungle

Over the past few months I've been working with awesome animator Steve Cartoccio on his new animated series Concrete Jungle.  Featuring amazing vocal talent like John Dimaggio (Bender from Futurama), Hannibal Burress, Open Mike Eagle and more, this is definitely a star studded series.  Along with providing some underscore music, Episode 2 has two exclusive feature songs with Murs and Wrekonize - both produced by me!  Check it out below!
